Where are the Solutions?

I just finished listening to the news. I found it so discouraging. The problems are monumental. However, the solutions are available and in many cases obvious.  It is time for us to focus on what needs to be done. The solutions will not come from any of our current political leaders who are mainly interested in extreme agendas, and their own reelection.

Here is my current list of solutions:
  • Solar, Wind, Wave generated power
  • Fair distribution of income through a righteous tax structure, and civil society actions.
  • Support for family farmers, not corporate farms
  • Professional sport teams that are community owned, and operated
  • Respect for people of all ages, especially the contribution of elders to society
  • A press that actually reports the news, is not biased by or controlled by corporate  interests.
  • Election Campaigns that are completely subsidized by public funds.
  • A fair emigration policy that recognized that we all, excepting Native Americans, emigrated here.
  • Emphasis on Public funding for all levels of Education
  • Respect for Working People of all classes
  • The teaching and display of tolerance.
  • Elimination of the death penalty
  • The empowerment of Unions and Trade Organizations
  • A fair and humane judicial and prison system, publicly funded and owned.
  • The elimination of torture here and abroad
  • An end to aggressive wars that are based on economic and expansionist issues.
  • Recognition that in a democratic representative society corporations should not be in charge.
  • Recognition that the people are the government
  • More individual gardens
  • The promotion and sale of healthy food for all
  • The ability to appreciate differences among people.
  • Respect for all of nature
  • A desire to live in harmony with our neighbors and nature in general.
  • Publicly funded health care for all.
And most import of all:
  • The knowledge that we have the ability and energy to accomplish the above.
  • Faith that fairness and goodness is stronger then selfishness and meanness.
Be aware of the issues, and don't loose hope.  Be courageous
