Food and what to do

Have you noticed an increase in articles about the difficulties in growing food, and  food shortages.  I have, and I find this news, especially when it is in the mainstream press, quite worrying. This news along with the potential shortage of potable water is an obvious consequence of global warming, increasing populations and how we human have and continue to impacted the planet.

This year my own vegetable garden is not yielding as it normally does.  It may be I've  lost my touch, or it may be the strange spring weather here in Boulder, Colorado.  Last week has been "normal", but before that it was cold, and dry, and then cold and rainy.  The seeds I planted did not germinate.  This week it is "summer" with 90degree weather. Elsewhere in the West one of the most beautiful areas of Arizona is burning. Here in Colorado the sudden melting of a very above normal snow pack is threatening flooding along the Front Range.

We have all learned to live with a constant barrage of disconcerting world and national news and almost constant and accelerated change.  We somehow adjust ourselves and go on with our duties.  We are the ultimate worker ants, that keep society functioning despite the the mistakes of the rulers. This is true courage.

Our leaders continue to ignore global warming, and its results.  The fights for and the use of fossil fuels continues unabated. People drive huge cars, build huge houses, and continue to over consume   Growing middle class populations in India and China are consuming as if they were us.

Alternative energy is not sexy any more, and is ignored by the people in DC, as well as Capitals around the world.  China is a prime example, with massive air pollution problems and the havoc being wroth by the Three Gorges Dam.   India is ruled by greed and corruption, along with the shocking arrest of a Guru's who was protesting this corruption. We, in the US are watching a political spectacle  that pays attention to only what is unimportant and contrived.

I am stumped.  I like to be positive in these posting, but at the moment I have run out of this energy.  I believe strongly that we all have to become less self centered, and pay attention.  I mean pay attention to everything we do, think and desire, for we are all affected by every thing.  We are all truly one.  Starving populations in India, Africa and here among segments of our own society are going to increasingly influence all of our lives.  Hopefully energy and action that is truly collective and for the benefit of all will save us.

  1. Has anyone seen the HBO movie "Too Big To Fail"?

Be sure to do it when you are not down about anything and have something wonderful to do the next day or someone lovely to see.
