Whistle Blowers, Wikileaks, and Nuclear Energy.

In the past ten day I have started two other blog topic.  In light of the tragedy in Japan, these topic seem irrelevant.   I am very saddened about the situation in Japan, and wish and pray for a favorable outcome.  I admire much about Japan and the Japanese people.  However I cannot say that I am surprised by the imminent and ongoing nuclear meltdown there.  Unfortunately, and I must say God forbid, that the situation in Japan could very well be recreated in California.

This thought brings me to Wikileaks, and Whistle Blowers.  As far as I know Japanese society does not support whistle blowers.  The worker who has a corporate job has basically married the corporation, and is not in a position to criticize.  I believe that the work mobility that use to be present in the US society allowed for whistle blowing.   Currently with little job security or mobility whistle blowers in the US may be a thing of the past.  This is a problem for out society, resulting in even less control over the corporation, and it dehumanizing policies of greed and power.  The corporations generating Nuclear Energy, and agencies that are charged  with overseeing Nuclear Energy are not telling the truth.  The US is as unprepared and as vulnerable as Japan for a Nuclear accident.

I consider the people at Wikileaks, including Julian Assange heroes.  Whatever their personal issues they are telling the world about the casual and widely accepted corruption of military/corporate/government power.   Another hero is Bradley Manning who has not been convicted of any crime, yet is held in solitary confinement under conditions that are consider torture by many.  Here is a young man who "crime" is that he told the truth about the behavior or out military.

As usual all these thoughts bring me to personal responsibility and action.  We all have to be the Wikileaks and Whistle Blowers.  We the people must insist on the closing of the nuclear reactors, all of which are a threat to the world.  We must demand justice for all prisoners in the corporate prison system that now houses so many of our citizens.  We must also demand justice for those incarcerated at Guantanamo Bay.

One of the principals of our society is that people are innocent until proven otherwise.  This principal has been put aside by our leaders. Both Bradley Manning and Julian Assange has been judged guilty and made enemies whiteout any judicial action.   This is dangerous for everyone.  Where will Congressional hearing on "Muslim Terrorist" go next in their attempt to quell  differences and protest.  Where is our free society.
